Typically I would say the smart thing to do is act interest in ask questions, to make the motivated reasoning more and more complex, you never know when it will hit the breaking point for a person.
That said, I do under the challenge doing this with Trumpers when there reasoning is incomprehensible, and they have shown a willingness to dig themselves into deeper and deeper pits. Rarely do I have the patients to actually help them in this way, I greatly admire the people who do.
