I continue to hold the view that TSN is primarily responsible for this, because one of their flagship products is the World Juniors. Billing young players as the be-all-and-end-all is just good for business.
But's also just shiny new toy syndrome. Before Monahan was "not a true #1 center" and "ineffective in the playoffs" and etc. etc. he was a sixth overall pick who scored 20 as an 18 year old. It's all untapped potential, until it isn't.
