The Flames have had sub-par goaltending for such a long time that I think a lot of fans have either forgotten, or are too young to have experienced, how valuable good goaltending is.
Signing Markstrom was a massive score for this team. Full stop. If his play deteriorates at some point, and the last year or two of the contract are a burden, that is a small price to pay for the addition of an elite player.

We've been burned by bad goaltending for so long, that I'm still very cautious about feeling confident in what we have. I assume that confidence will come with more games; I look forward to not feeling anxious about almost every shot. While I was old enough to remember prime Kipper, it's been long enough that I don't really remember how it feels to have great goaltending.
