I think he's trying for the record ... but he has to get away from this year and a half trend to shoot from the outside. Pucks and positioning have to go to the middle.
Until he does that teams have the book ... let him go wide and nothing happens.
Hope he figures it out.

Only part I just kind of disagree with is the “trying” part. He skates hard, no doubt for the most part.
But for me trying is also going to the net, driving to the net, trying to stick handle / deke around guys, trying to make plays and be creative. Getting back to being the unpredictable shifty forward that made defensemen back off because they didn’t know what his next move would be.
That’s trying. Skating sure... but other than that is he really trying? Not really. How often does he take a hit to make a play? How hard is he on the puck? Like AC says what’s with the defensive zone weak play and not getting the puck out?
Come on. He can try harder. I would think much harder. And stop pouting and believe in yourself is what I hope the coaches are telling him because he (I think at least) has the ability to be truly great and a lot of this is mental and heart not his skill or speed or whatever. Again looks to me like the guy got paid and- “yeah that’s good enough for me” now kinda thing.
