In the NFL once the season is over there is some downtime and life returns somewhat to normal (there is still the usual stuff but not as much dealing and working with the players). Not so in college. Plus working with the players during spring ball etc. College coaching is much more involved in the players lives than the NFL is and that is a year round duty.
But I do agree that Meyer would not necessarily be a guaranteed success in the NFL. The two games (college vs NFL) are so completely different and you need different skillsets to succeed in each environment.

Which is why so many guys have been elite at the college level and bombed in the NFL.
In college they get complete and utter control on who they hire for what coaching position, who they give scholarships too, why they run the systems they do etc..
In the NFL you have GM's, owners, advisers, etc who all get a say on what you do.
