Last years Oilers were a lot like the team in 2017 that surprised some people and got to the playoffs. They had a lot of guys who had career years, had a historic special teams, got the new coach bump (that they like to use to discount our surge last year) and had players hit extremely high shooting percentage.
None of their additions were very impressive. Barrie is a downgrade on Klefbom and their cheap filler is very mediocre. I do think there is some potential risk Puljujarvi could break out and I see him bumping one of Kassian or Yamamoto down the lineup. I definitely don’t see Yamamoto having the same impact as last year.
Their goaltending and blueline is so terrible. I remember a lot of the media both local and National crown them top contenders after 2017 and they turned back into the pretenders they were.
