It was most likely simply a slip of the tongue. But the Oilers did not make the playoffs.
Because they are no good.

Draisaitl saying that shows that he's dumb.
The Flames and Nucks and Habs made the playoffs, the Oilers did not.
The Oilers were terrible after the restart as the fluke factor on players like Yamamoto and Bear wore off and they looked pretty much ordinary.
They went out like a drowning rat with no fight in the seeding round to a 12th place team.
They were at best a mediocre team last year, not even close to the best team in Canada, and they rode a historically high and probably unsustainable special teams boost to cover their dreadful, 5v5 play. And yeah Oilers, teams are going to have spent time breaking down your power play and penalty kill so if it slips you're freaking dead.
I think the Oilers rode the fluke lightning last year before the lockdown. Yamamoto is not likely to see another 25% shooting percentage until her retires and plays bear league. Archibald had a 18% shooting percentage at least 5 points higher then his career.
They more then any other team feels like last year was an illusion and feel like the team that is most likely to regress based on special teams, based on career years and based on their line up this year.
Heck they might start strong, but they feel like a team that like last year is going to fade out.
I expect the first jersey to hit the ice by the end of March, and the first fearful "The Connor is fed up at carrying this team and is going to want out" by April, oh and the Oilers releasing their draft party schedule in April as well.
Die Oilers Die!
