There was an article in The Athletic, I think, where they consulted with a pro athlete tax guy who said most players take home 40-45% of their gross earnings. At about $53,000,000 USD in career earnings, per Cap Friendly, Kane has taken home around $21,000,000 USD.
$21,000,000 in earnings but $27,000,000 in debt implies he has "spent" $48,000,000 in ten years. Difficult to comprehend.
Obviously spent is a simplification but the point remains.
