To add to this...The United States has always had fascism baked into it's DNA. Prior to WWII there was a relatively large fascist swell in the country. In fact, Hitler and the Nazi's studied some US policies like Eugenics and generally thought highly of America. I sometimes wonder (and shudder to think) if they didn't fight the Nazi's in WWII, which made fascism public enemy #1, would they be much further down the trail to all-out fascism than they are today.
