Alleged assault on stage

Shore was punched to the ground after tangling with hecklers at a Texas comedy club in December 2006. Shore was performing at the 8th Street Comedy Club in Odessa, Texas when he became irritated with audience members talking through his performance. In an angry exchange, one club-goer in a cowboy hat took to the stage and, goaded by the audience, punched Shore’s face, causing him to fall to the floor. The heckler was then led away by what appeared to be a police officer. Shore stood up and muttered, "**** all you ****in' white trash," before leaving the stage.

Later it came out the incident was staged. The chief of police of Odessa Texas has issued a press release saying that the incident with Pauly Shore getting punched out at a Odessa comedy club was a hoax. He says it was a skit that went as planned and no one was ever in any danger and no one was hurt. An off-duty Odessa police officer was working at the club that night and was involved from the beginning. The statement says in part:

After viewing the video, the officer who was employed at the club in an off duty capacity, was contacted by investigators. The officer reported he had met with Mr. Shore prior to his set, and was asked to participate in the skit. The officer stated that the skit went as designed and that Shore was not injured in the designed skit.

Subsequently, it became clear the audience was in it as well and the whole videotaping was staged. A tape started circulating on Youtube with footage of a first and a second take of the incident. On the first take Shore starts laughing and says: "****, I don't think I can ****in' pull this off."
