As an atheist, I have been reflecting a lot on the bible passage from romans 8:31 "If God be for us, who can be against us?" (preface - this is NOT an all sides, many sides defense) Both ends of the spectrum believe they are right. Both believe they have god and liberty and freedom on their side. And at this point most see the other side as an actual enemy. I am just not sure how we move past this divide. It is so very fundamental at this point. I often wonder if we just need something similar to the partition of British India.

I'd probably go with something way less bloody, maybe Yugoslavia than the horror of India in 1947
