Isn't social media being wild west exactly the reason why this coup failed, though? The point of free media, as I understand it, is to prevent centralized control over ALL the media and thus prevent head of state from mis leading the entire nation. Whatever propaganda some groups may promote, it would be countered by their opponents, thus making it impossible to manipulate the whole country in Gebbels style. I would say, it somewhat worked yesterday. It was a relatively rare occurrence when acting head of a country could not mislead enough people to stage a coup.
