Not to mention, non of this should be surprising. History was made when Trump gave his "many sides" speech. It continued to be made throughout his presidency when he applied authoritarian tactics. It was made when he told the Proud Boys to "stand by". It was made again when he said he wouldn't accept the election results if he lost.
This has been a slow burn and none of it is really unexpected. Shocking, but not surprising.
I think calling it a "coup" gives it way more credit than it actually deserves. This is just a bunch of people with an inappropriate sense of entitlement revolting because they didn't get their way.
The last successful coup on American soil was 122 years ago. I don't expect an actual coup will happen any time soon.
