Coaching was a factor, but they were ready to play. They owned the US for the first 5 minutes with the relentless forecheck they had been using all tournament. Then the US made an adjustment and Canada couldn't figure out how to match it.
To me this type of outcome is typical in this tournament and it highlights the difference between these players and seasoned pros. The in-game emotional swings can be crippling to such a young team.
Canada was able to get back under control in the third, but by then the US was able to play a smart and safe shell that kept Canada to the outside.
