I wouldn't shy away from he because the Mets are interested. I'd move away from him because of his asking price to what he brings to the table. I don't believe the position he's in warrants a bidding war. Realmuto would be more worthwhile at the price requested, but who knows - these guys probably get a feel of what each player is leaning towards. In this case I could totally see many of these guys having a preference for one team over another but trying to leverage the other team to outbid another. And not based on anything but how long this has dragged out, I can see Springer specifically using the Jays as leverage but angling to go to the Mets. With the Jays outwardly saying they're pursuing guys, every player knows the pressure is on them now, and they're taking advantage.
