It's pretty obviously opportunism to make another video or ten that will also gets several million views and will therefore make him a few bucks while potentially bringing a couple of people to his channel... Controversy is good for that.

To be fair, if the Flames win the cup this year, there will be more than a few people crying who didn't win it personally. On this site, no less.
