I feel like Tkachuk and Flames fans get the last laugh though. The Oilers org will never admit it, but I have no doubt that Kassians buffonary and the subsequent glowing media coverage helped play some part to push Holland over the edge to lock Kassian up to a 4 year, $12.8 million contract.
It doesn't have the high dollar value hit of a Lucic, Eriksson, Seabrook, etc... type contract, but that is an overpayment for a team trying to turn the corner and compete.
Holland is taking the death by a thousand cuts approach to killing the Oilers. A 2nd round pick here, an extra million to a UFA contract there, and suddenly you're left with a mediocre team with limited assets and no capspace.
