One of the most insane peices of business the Oilers have done, and that says something.
Purely out of hubris and the league wide and country wide buzz that first game generated, Lowe goes ahead gets that contract extension done as a gleeful proof of validation of Kassains's actions.
Do you really think hockey guys like Tippett and Holland, walking the fine line day to day of a cap team, with some many more important ways to allocate those funds to try and make the team better, are going to suddenly step up mid season to vastly over pay to resign a 4th line slug? And, it had to be signed before that next Flames/Oilers game two weeks later, or it would lose most of the desired public relations effect Lowe was going for.
Kassian owes Tkachuk easily half of that new contract. The dysfunction and delusion of the organization up north was also epitomized by this move with the smartest guy in the room, once again, undermining the people who's job it is to run the team.
