I had a proud Dad moment the other day. I was home all day with my four year old daughter and when I asked what she wanted to do the answer was LEGO!
She got a few Frozen sets for her birthday we've been going through. One was Anna's Canoe expedition for ages 4+. This was a really good introduction. The instructions were easy to follow and other than a few times where I had to make her focus on the correct page and a couple tricky steps she pretty much did the entire thing herself in about in hour.
Another one we did was the Storybook. This is the set with 3/4 figures that folds up into a book reminding me of a Polly Pocket. The set was for ages 5 and up but I'm not sure a 5 year old could put this together. The build was simple but they put the instructions on one sheet without detailing the pieces to use. I'm not sure a 5 year old could have figured these out and even if they did there were still a number smaller piece connections that would have been difficult for little hands. I think this is more of a parents put together and kids play set. The play is good though. I liked how there is freedom to put the stickers anywhere and that it folds up nicely and fits on a book shelf.
We also have the Jewelry box to do but it's for ages 6 so I will try and wait at least a year.
