It's not about buying votes. The vast majority of Canadians want cheaper dairy products and more competition within the market. It's not even about protecting the market from American companies, even small time Canadian companies can't get into the market. When the cost of a dairy license for a single cow is $50k+ and then you have to pay for labour, land, facilities, etc.. on top of that, where's the protection for the small farmer?
This is about large dairy companies lobbying the government, at the expense of everyone else.
