Bust a Myth 5: Drinking One Drink an Hour Keeps You Sober Enough to Drive

When I got my impaired driving charge (was pulled over for speeding and officer smelled booze) at 21 years old I blew 0.27. The officers at the station made me sit there for 30 minutes to blow again as they thought there was an issue with the machine because I was totally coherent and answering their questions with ease and not showing any signs of inebriation. They said they have seen people blow half that much that couldn't walk so this couldn't be right. Well after 30 minutes it was something like 0.26. I got pulled over at 12:30 am but had been drinking all day from the afternoon so even though I was in a somewhat normal state I had a lot of alcohol in my blood. Not defending what I did or anything as I deserved the charge and it's a good lesson that if you have been drinking steadily over the course of a day even if you feel fine and feel that you spread things out, there's a good chance you have above the legal limit of alcohol levels in your blood.
