okay....are you suggesting this is the reason why the Flames haven't been better? Is there a particular reason you are singling this out? Anahiem has more, as does Montreal, Pittsburgh has more dead cap between buyout and retained salary, Philadelphia has more, Minnesota has more than 2M in retained salary.....the list goes on. And it's likely only a matter of time before other teams bite the bullet as well. It is nothing unusual, all teams have dead cap space in one form or another at some point. This is the cost of doing business and aside from some egregious examples, it is hardly worth criticism.
there are 10 teams over the cap right now. What is Vancouver going to do? buyout Sven Bartschi? Put Ferland on LITR? I guess that makes them in a more enviable position?
The Flames are 14th in the league for their salary projection. I would say there cap management has been pretty good, all things considered.
