Solo did it really well, Storm Troopers were supposed to be like the Marines, they were the assault troops, and relatively rare to see, for the most part the occupiers would be the Imperial Army.
As hard as it is to believe, because the Storm Troopers were like the SS, they were the hard core believers in the Empire and New Order that they were willing to die to storm a beach or a ship or take a building. And frankly the Empire was willing to let them die.
However they were mostly coming up against poorly armed and trained rebel cells in the early days. So the victories came easy.
They were certainly no clone Troopers and that was the problem.
Kind of like their pilots flying high speed lightly armed unshielded fighters. They were willing to do anything for the New Order,
