On the normal circuit they would normally be turning right at the point the incident occurred instead of trying to turn left to head to t5 on the outer loop.
One thing I notice din the replay is the wall was essentially the same colour as the gravel trap. I could imagine it may have come up quicker than he thought. He also had the wheels locked so he wasn't getting any steering input. I'm not sure if releasing the brakes would have allowed him to steer or not, but I've seen Hamilton do it in the past to save himself.
