For me I the answer to question 1 is that he ends up signing closer to his parents home (Boston or Philly would be my guess), but even if he does state that he is willing to re-sign here I think my answer to question 2 is I don't think I want to give him that contract at UFA AAV/Term when he's 29 years old.
He was a 4th round pick, you've been able to get the prime years of his career at a reasonable cost, the smartest move from an asset management perspective is to turn that into more young and cost controlled pieces if you can.

As we discussed on our recent podcast ... that may no longer be the case.
I was with you 100% ... lose him for nothing is terrible, sign him for huge dollars and huge term, also bad.
But now with the covid mess and his timing, he may be up for a contract at a time when big contracts won't be handed out. Maybe he avoids the Hall to Buffalo for one year mess by doing a three year deal in Calgary for $7M per and pushing the issue down the road.
