The Athletic projects the Flames to be the NHL’s 16th best team in 2023-24. So, they are saying the Flames will be what they’ve been for a long time: mediocre. I have to say that I agree. I don’t think the future of this team is anything but middle of the pack.
Why did this past rebuild fall flat?
I think the answer is the team began trading too many high draft picks too quickly. The rebuild failed due to a lack of patience.
