If I count only the States I have stayed in for at least one night, I get to 224.

If I add Montana, which I have only visited on day trips, I get to 227.

If I add Connecticut, which I've passed through on a train, but didn't set foot in outside of the train, I get to 234.

If I add Texas, which I've only been in on a connecting flight through Houston, I pass 270 and get to 272.
