I think a good deal of the "stubby" look is a function of the side sills.
I have the same observation (almost complaint) about my own car, actually. When first launched, the Vantage had side sills that swept under the body, making the car appear longer and slimmer in the middle, like an optical illusion corset. The N400 sills introduced this slight lip and swoop to the sill, didn't quite undo the effect but wasn't as clean. Then the V8S and V12 have the flat sills that run the full length of the space between the front and rear wheels. Great to better protect the sills from debris kicked up by the front tires, but from certain angles the V8S and V12 look shorter and chubbier than the standard car... all because of the sills.
