I think he's talking about the satin stitching around the edge of the colour patches. It definitely lets the crest pop more in real life than just a 2D logo.

I actually just checked my Pro Player Blasty and Adidas opted to do satin stich edge on applique for the new crest instead of primarily embroidery. I think satin stich edging looks much better.
