Of course it could be none of those things, but 98 seems like an obvious clue and not just a random number. I don't think a black 89 or a black 13 is at all likely.

From what I can tell league wide it is based on the colors or style from that year, with something flipped or reversed. So yes, some element of the 1998 Flames uniform set has changed.
They had white pedestal, red pedestal and black Blasty as jersey choices in 1998. Therefore, Black Blasty coming back as it was in 1998 isn't a flip of anything, was my point.
So what do they flip, if the color looks to be black?
I guess they could do black Blasty with a 1989 striping pattern as the switch, but that doesn't sound "enough" of a flip. Also not "enough" IMO would be just a recolored Blasty logo on the black jersey (as the Oilers may be doing) on their white and orange jerseys.
