Yes, early on election night, based on exit polling and previous history, the AP did call Florida in Gore's favour. That call was reversed later in the night and Bush was declared the winner of Florida. Gore even called Bush that evening to concede. By the morning after the election, Florida was in the "too close to call" column and Gore took back his concession (which has no legal bearing anyway).

I don't believe any of the news agencies ever declared that Gore had won the Presidency, and if they did, it certainly didn't survive election night itself, let alone 37 days.


The idea that everyone thought Gore was going to be President for over a month until the Supreme Court changed the results is just pure fantasy.
