That mistake was made after Bush v.2 and his administration weren't pursued for war crimes and here we are.
I don't believe it sets a bad precedent like some suggested. There's a difference between wanting to jail someone like Obama for not agreeing with his policies vs wanting to hold accountable a guy like Trump who clearly committed crimes while in office. While most of the world is relieved Biden won, there is still a lot of talk from other countries moving forward without being dependent on the US. Holding that administration accountable would go a long way to rebuilding that trust.
I too am relieved, but know full well the same damn thing can happen again in 4 years except this time with a GOP administration that is a lot more competent. What's to stop the next round of GOPs from simply reversing what Biden does and once again trying to consolidate power for their own personal gain? Going after Trump and his cronies would go a long way to relieving some of those concerns and would give a definitive statement to the world that what happened is not acceptable and steps will be taken to ensure it doesn't happen again.
There is precedent of other countries holding their politicians accountable. Just because it hurts his followers feelings doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. I would be disgusted if him and his cronies are allowed to walk away like nothing happened and would brace myself in 4 years for the second round of this BS.

This is an important post and perspective. I'm bumping it for emphasis and so it doesn't get lost in the dum-dummery of the past couple of pages.
In my view, it is essential that justice not only be done, but be
seen to be done. This means that not only are crimes investigated, but they are prosecuted in the public view. Moreover, it means that those prosecutions can't be show trials - there should be no political influence or attachment to them: they should simply be allowed to unfold on their merits.
The US can and should allow these investigations to unfold. Putting a stop to them for political reasons is every bit as bad as initiating/conducting them for political reasons.
Even if there are not grounds to prosecute in most instances, there should be a public airing of what went on during the last administration. In Canada, we would use public inquiries for this purpose. They're toothless, but they're very good at bringing out the truth.
Whatever happens, the public needs to know what wrongs were committed by the last administration, especially if any are criminal in nature.
