I bought a set of Lagostina Stainless at Canadian Tire at least 10 years ago. Don't remember what they cost but it was probably between $200-$300. Nice thick bottoms to hold heat, glass lids. They have been though hundreds of dishwasher cycles and besides a bit of colour fading on the handles and some minor scratches they are still like new.
As for pans, I've been using those Heritage Rock ones but even with a lot of care the surface breaks down in less than a year. I use mine in the oven so maybe that shortens their life. Next time I buy I'm going to try carbon steel.
