I think that every politican has faults, especially the high ranking ones.

Part of their job is to make difficult decisions where sometimes there is no right answer.

It means, they're the 'bad guy's by default, no matter what they do.

People here will hate on Trudeau, others will hate on Harper, just as some hate Clinton, others Bush Jr.

So whats sets Trump apart?

Honestly, I think that for all their flaws, our perception of politicians rightly or wrongly, they all have something in common. They all are doing what they think is best for their country/province/state/city/town.

I do believe George Bush Jr did what he though was best for the United States of America. Whether he was right or not isn't my point, it's that I believe Bush 43 did what he felt was best.

Same goes for Clinton, and Obama. Same goes for Trudeau, Harper, Martin, Chretien, etc.

I believe they were/are trying to make their country better.

Trump on the other hand. I don't believe he gives a tinker damn about the United States. I think he's all about short term, what benefits me NOW? His raision d'etre doesn't care if the country burns, so long as he gets praise and lives like a billionaire. Heck, he doesn't even really care if he's a billionaire so long as he gets to live like one and people think he's one.

I'm happy Trump lost not because I don't share the ultra-conservative philosophy, I'm happy because he wasn't trying to make the world a better place he was damaging it for himself.

I've been wrong on policy before. I've changed my mind. The thing is, my belief in making those around me better has never wavered, just the processes in how to do that. I can respect that. I understand you need to walk before you can run.

But Trump...

Trump was lighting things on fire because Flames are fun.

I'm overjoyed that Biden will President because we won't have a president actively trying to tear the country apart.
Trump wasn't an ultra-conservative, far from it.

He was an economic protectionist, he was an authoritarian that wanted to increase the power of the gov't, he spent like a drunken sailor running up huge deficits, undermined free markets, he raised tariffs (which is like raising taxes), he was anti-free-trade, he subsidized farmers, he was pro same sex marriage (which the Democrats weren't until about 10 years ago), I could go on. He's a populist and nationalist.

His conservative policies were derived from his populism and nationalism - so insofar as he was a conservative, he was a poor one. He certainly wasn't "ultra-conservative."

As for him being different than other politicians - this was more so in terms of his rudimentary communication abilities and his boorish style. Most politicians aren't that different from Trump, they just have the good sense to slap on a veneer of appealing personality.
