What's the fiasco? That it took three days to know the result? That was really only because Republican state legislatures in a few key states (PA in particular) passed laws that mail-in ballots could only be counted
after in-person ballots. They did this specifically so they could make it look like Trump won early then later claim voter fraud when there was none. Other states counted mail-in ballots in advance and were then able to announce the result much earlier on election day, e.g. Florida.
