Patriotism is a powerful tool especially when used for the wrong reasons. Trump had the charisma of a cockroach, but he yelled the messages that a lot of Americans seem to want to hear. We can all shake our heads in disbelief but it still occurred and will happen again.
There was another leader who was widely popular and got himself in power on patriotism and saying what people wanted to hear. The similarities are very much there (yes I am enacting Godwin here, but it's relevant).

This election clearly showed without a doubt that this nefarious element in America not only remains, but is stronger then ever. I understand that people want to sweep it under the rug, but it's there, it's most certainly awoken and Americans need to figure out what to do with it. Last time there was such a divided population on issues in the US there was a civil war.
Trump was by far the worst president in history, and we are here on Day 4 still counting. Even though Biden will win, it is with the slimmest of margins in many states.
The next Trump isn't far away and Americans need to rectify the issues that caused him to succeed as he did.
