During the open houses for the the 36th/McKnight interchange there was talk that this would replace the Barlow section, but for that to happen they would need to finish the eastern portion of Airport Trail

I thought that the airport already owned all of that land. But to be honest, I haven't been in that area of the city in a good 5 years. Maybe they just ditch Barlow going to the airport altogether as Airport Tr. seems easier.
