I don't understand the Nickelback hate either, and it's time for me to chime in. They are, maybe, my favorite band. Some others I really like lately.
Nickelback had an excellent CD called the State, which is when I became a serious fan. I picked up their old disc, Curb and gave it a whirl. One thing I have to say is that yes, the longer their career goes on, the more produced sounding they are becoming. Silver Side Up was their 3rd major record and it was released on September 11th, and after that they became popular in the USA. Listen to SSU and then tell me where you have heard that before? Which band did Nickelback copy? Why does every band now copy them? To me, that doesn't make them bad.
Way back when, regardless of how you feel now, they must have had a good song or two that people REQUESTED on the radio. And after a while of being overplayed, because of CANCON, now everyone over-hears their music and says they suck. I would argue that Nickelback has become the defining rock band of this era, and to say they suck is clearly wrong.
Before you bash on an excellent Canadian band, you should be exposed to all their previous work. It's one thing not to like it, and it's another thing to know where it comes from and say "that isn't the music for me." Grow up and be adults about music. I don't say that country music sucks just because it isn't my particular favorite!
