KHL isn't that good, and people always sell Liiga short. In World Championships Russia typically goes nowhere without their NHL stars, while Finland is for example right now the ruling champion with mostly Liiga players. (Of course 2020 games got canceled but the point stands.) People sell Liiga short. Even Finns do that.
When KHL teams play other Euro team, like in the Spengler cup, they have success on par with Swiss teams. I'd say KHL is on average maaaybe as good as Liiga, but really outside of their stars, the average skill level in the KHL is nothing special. Having seen some KHL games live, it's nothing special.
The best KHL players are of course really good.
There's no question IMO that SHL is better than KHL. It's the best Euro league and a tier above others, as proven for example by the European Champions League.
