I don't put a ton of stock into goalie stats in minor leagues. Sometimes the quality of chances is, on a nightly basis, comparable to those "Bag skate these ####s!!!!" games in the NHL. And on the flip side, sometimes really mediocre goalies play behind more veteran minor league teams that play a very tight system and don't expose the goalie to much danger at all.

You look at the minor league careers guys like Pekka Rinne or Jordan Binnington, and there really isn't much to write home about.

What matters is whether a goalie can make the saves he needs to make behind an NHL defense, in the NHL. How to evaluate that? I'm not sure there's a definite way. I know when I watched Rittich in the minors, I saw that talent shine above a guy like Gillies almost always. I haven't watched Parsons in the minors, but I know from what I saw in junior, that he definitely has "it".

Can the Calgary Flames find a way to harness "it"?

I hope so, because hypothetically, Tyler Parsons probably has the highest ceiling of any prospect we have, even including Valimaki, That's how good Parsons could be someday.

I hope he hits his ceiling.

But Goalies are a crapshoot.

Sigh.
