As you can see, he wasn't really playing a 4th line role. On lines with guys like Horvat and Ferland, that's pretty firmly their second line.
2) I posted these numbers earlier in this thread. Again, this is pretty firmly top six production:
So I don't think Flames fans are being particularily hopeful. The guy is clearly worth more than the veterans minimum, but his injury and the current free agency climate squeezed him out.
It's probably Treliving's highest-value free agency signing... ever.

Leivo in his 84 games with the Canucks got 2:17 /game on the PP. Backlund had 1:24 on the pp
Who on the Flames PP will give up PP time to Leivo?
Gaudreau, Lindholm, Tkachuk, Monahan... or maybe the Flame go with 5 forwards?
Compare Leivo's career best year 2018-19 to an ex-flame who signed with Pittsburgh for 700K
Leivo games 76 goals 14 pts 24 +5 non-pp Goals 11 non-PP pts 17
ex-Flame games 79 goals 14 pts 32 +6 non-pp goals 14 non-pp pts 32
The stats say that Leivo would have to have a HUGE improvement to match the scoring prowess of the ex-Flame.
I don't miss Jankowski but he made a better case than Leivo to be on the top-6.
As for lack of energy from the bottom 6 Jankowski 1.36 hits/ 60 minutes and Leivo 1.76 hits / 60 minutes both a sign of high skill no contact players.
