So a few things:
1) Here are some (all?) of the goals he scored last season, Skip ahead to 1:47:
As you can see, he wasn't really playing a 4th line role. On lines with guys like Horvat and Ferland, that's pretty firmly their second line.
2) I posted these numbers earlier in this thread. Again, this is pretty firmly top six production:

So I don't think Flames fans are being particularily hopeful. The guy is clearly worth more than the veterans minimum, but his injury and the current free agency climate squeezed him out.
It's probably Treliving's highest-value free agency signing...
