That's the thing. The kid has been given multiple "second chances", and he still hasn't done anything with it. He's been given multiple opportunities to come clean with it, show remorse, and learn from it. Instead, we get a generic hollow apology (probably from his lawyer or agent), and then nothing.
So yes, the onus is now on the kid. He's an adult now. There's absolutely no excuses left.
