It's the danger of various reports simply stating his skating is a concern, because there are so many aspects within that broad category he then gets considered to be bad at everything.



That is a fair point. I might have been lazy with my word choice. Again, I know nothing beyond scouting reports, so this is what Pronman ( who loves Zary) had to say before the draft

FWIW Pronman has Zary ranked ahead of Pelletier and Valimaki, and he is a guy to definitely loves a prospect who skates well.
