I kid, but I think you have to draw an arbitrary line somewhere.
We have things like age of consent laws, drinking ages, driver's licensing laws, separate legal procedures for minors, guardianship, etc..., because there is an age that we recognize that young people need protection from things that have long term consequences of their actions. The exact age where the over/under for eating Tide Pods is favourable enough to declare someone an adult varies.
Just speaking from personal experience, but I believe I was probably the sharpest mentally in my 20s. But at the same time, I probably made some of the worst life decisions I could have. I have known some really intelligent people who couldn't manage their life for some reason, but there is a big difference between being intelligent and being informed. I also know that there are 17 year olds that would make a good argument for lowering the voting age, as well as other age restrictive rules and laws.
