You may remember this series that Ferland, Jones, Stajan, Colbourne, 18 year old Bennett and Engelland physically dominated the Canucks.

Peak Tanev (age 25) had 3 hits in that 6 games series.

Tanev doesn’t seem like a big hitter based on the shifts that I saw. He actually looked more like a finesse guy akin to TJ Brodie as weird as that sounds.

The way I say him defend, he was more interested in fronting the puck carrier and using his stick to separate the puck from the player. He’d push and shove the players to throw them off balance and make it difficult to make plays, but it’s not like he went out of his way to hit them and take himself out of position.

I actually like the way he defends more than the Sarich and Warrener types. He’s fast, so he’ll be able to keep up against quicker players and hopefully won’t be beat one-on-one very often.

The few question marks I have left for him is his puck retrievals. I’m not sure his edge work is the at the same level as TJ Brodie, so he might have a tough time against forecheckers and he might end up absorbing a lot of hits which could be why he’s injured so often. It could lead to some turnovers as well which will probably lead to shot blocks which again, injuries. I’m hoping he gets paired up with Gio who can make the little plays to get the puck out of the zone and keep Tanev from absorbing hits/shot blocks which hopefully means he spends less time in the press box.
