The problem with trading for Gallagher is that Montreal is hooped with the cap, so they can't bring back more salary than than they are shipping out. And Gallagher is only $3.75M this year.
So Montreal needs to take back less than $3.75M.
But that doesn't really work for the Flames. Also, Gallagher is going to be north of $5M next year, so the cap problems get worse.
Instead of trading for him now, let's see how Montreal does this season - maybe he'll be available at the deadline. He is an ideal rental.
