That's a little too Hollywood. When those types of things are actually happening there are so many moving parts that someone usually ends up getting hurt or killed. You don't take those chances with Governors or elected representatives. I think they did a good job and setting the trap and catching the prey with enough evidence to cook them. Agreed. The FBI should not be making decisions for my entertainment benefit!
Assuming, no one got seriously hurt, it would be a pretty stark image to have a bunch of dressed up Trump supporters invading the Governor's mansion. It might actually make some people really question if that is the side they are on.
Foiled plots don't usually make much of an impact.
