The Flames may have gotten better in net but they have not gotten better elsewhere. This is a big loss. Gio is in the Norris conversation when paired with Brodie.
I expect they will miss Brodie a lot. Toronto got a great player on a great deal.

It's pretty clear Brodie wanted to play in Toronto. It's not like Brodie and the Flames started talking the day free agency started. I'm sure they had talks previously and both sides knew that it was unlikely he would be staying. Brad focused on one of the biggest fish in free agency and Brodie went and talked to the Leafs. Both sides likely left the door open as neither knew what Toronto would ultimately offer. I don't think Brodie ever really intended on staying unless the Leafs weren't going to offer him something reasonable.
