I guess it depends on how you look at it. How does he look compared to the Bobrovsky signing. Last season he would’ve gotten around $8M per. It’s all relative I guess.
It sucks that the Flames don’t really have much cap space to go hunting for good bargain contracts. That said most of the playoff teams from last season are in the same position. They either moved good players for small return, or remained relatively unchanged. Edmonton signed multiple great contracts, but they ended up resigning Smith. I think they would’ve been happier having Markstrom, without the bargain contracts.
